How kundali matching works

Manglik dosha (Mangal dosha), explained

A kundali is Manglik when Mars sits in the 1st, 4th, 7th, 8th or 12th house from the Lagna. It is common, and two kundalis suit when both are Manglik or neither is.

The Lagna is the sign rising at birth, and Mars is Mangal. Being Manglik is not a curse: what matters for a marriage is the two kundalis together.

Mars is the planet of energy, courage and temper. Tradition holds that Mars in one of these houses brings that heat into married life - quick tempers and quarrels at home, and in the older texts strain on the partner’s health and on the marriage itself - and that two Manglik partners balance each other’s fire. That is why a Manglik is traditionally matched with a Manglik.

Manglik has no points among the 36 gunas; it is read beside the score. It needs an accurate birth time, because the Lagna changes every two hours or so.

Where the idea comes from

In the Puranas Mangal is the son of Bhumi, the Earth: red, fiery, and the commander of the army in the court of the planets. Astrologers set that fire against the houses, counted from the Lagna, that speak for married life: one’s own nature (1st), the home and its peace (4th), the partner (7th), the long life of the marriage (8th), and the couple’s physical intimacy, sleep and spending (12th). A warrior standing in those rooms, the thinking went, brings his heat in with him.

Tradition’s answer was to temper him rather than fear him, which is why so many rules soften Manglik dosha: a gentle planet such as Jupiter or Venus beside him, or Mars in a sign where he is at ease.

Manglik, Aanshik Manglik and Non-Manglik

Every kundali comes out as one of three:

StatusWhen
ManglikMars is in the 1st, 4th, 7th, 8th or 12th house from the Lagna, and nothing softens it.
Aanshik ManglikMars is in one of those houses, but at least one of the rules below softens it. Aanshik means partial: the dosha is there, and milder.
Non-ManglikMars is in any other house.

What softens Manglik dosha

Any one of these makes the person Aanshik rather than fully Manglik:

Which pairings suit

Every pairing, and what the Gun Milan app says once the score has reached 18:

PairingWhat it meansThe Gun Milan app says
Manglik with ManglikThe same status on both sides.Good match
Manglik with Aanshik ManglikBoth carry the dosha; one is softened.Good match, with a one-line note
Manglik with Non-ManglikOnly one carries the dosha.Manglik mismatch
Aanshik Manglik with Aanshik ManglikThe same status on both sides.Good match
Aanshik Manglik with Non-ManglikOnly one carries the dosha, and it is softened.Ask your pandit ji
Non-Manglik with Non-ManglikThe same status on both sides.Good match

Under 18 gunas the answer is "Low guna score" whatever the Manglik reading, and a Manglik mismatch is stated beside it.

The result names every rule that softened either kundali, so your pandit ji can see exactly why; the final word is theirs.
