How kundali matching works

How many gunas should match?

18 of 36 is the traditional pass mark. Above it, more gunas are better - but a Manglik mismatch matters more than a few extra points.

The total adds up eight kootas, worked out from where the two Moons were at birth. Manglik dosha is checked separately, from the Lagna, and has no points of its own.

What a total means

GunasWhat it means
Under 18Weak. Most families do not go ahead, whatever else is true.
18-24Acceptable. The match passes, and Manglik dosha decides the rest.
25-32Very good.
33-36Excellent.

Within a band, a point or two makes little difference. Whether Manglik suits matters far more than 26 against 30.

The four answers the Gun Milan app gives

The Gun Milan app reads the total and Manglik dosha together and gives one of four answers:

AnswerWhen
Good match18 or more, and Manglik suits. If a Nadi or Gana dosha stands, or one of them is Aanshik Manglik and the other Manglik, a one-line note says so.
Ask your pandit ji18 or more, but one of them is Aanshik (partly) Manglik and the other is not Manglik. Some families accept this and some do not.
Manglik mismatch18 or more, but one of them is Manglik and the other is not. Most families would not go ahead.
Low guna scoreUnder 18, whatever else is true.

Whatever the answer, your family pandit ji has the final word.
