Vashya koota in kundali matching
Vashya koota looks at the pull between two people: how drawn they are to each other, and how readily each gives way to the other. It carries 2 of the 36 gunas.

Open the Gun Milan appEach Moon rashi falls in one of five groups, each named for a kind of creature. Two people of the same group are traditionally read as having an easy, natural pull towards each other. The two groups are looked up in the table below for 0 to 2 gunas.
Where the idea comes from
Vashya means ‘under one’s sway’: the one who can be won over. Tradition asks what kind of creature each sign’s picture shows. The ram and the bull walk on four feet; the twins, the maiden, the figure with the scales and the water-bearer are human; the crab and the fish live in water; the lion keeps the forest; the scorpion is a small creature of its own. The archer is a man in front and a horse behind, and the makara is half a creature of land and half of the sea, which is why those two signs change group halfway.
The old writers then watched how such creatures meet in the world - which follows which, which shies from which - and read the same pull between two people. It is a picture of attraction and of yielding, which every marriage needs a little of.
The vashya group of each rashi
| Rashi | Vashya group |
|---|---|
| Mesha (Aries) | Chatushpada (four-footed) |
| Vrishabha (Taurus) | Chatushpada (four-footed) |
| Mithuna (Gemini) | Dwipada (two-footed, human) |
| Karka (Cancer) | Jalachara (water creatures) |
| Simha (Leo) | Vanachara (wild animals) |
| Kanya (Virgo) | Dwipada (two-footed, human) |
| Tula (Libra) | Dwipada (two-footed, human) |
| Vrischika (Scorpio) | Keeta (insects and scorpions) |
| Dhanu (Sagittarius) | Dwipada in the first half, Chatushpada in the second |
| Makara (Capricorn) | Chatushpada in the first half, Jalachara in the second |
| Kumbha (Aquarius) | Dwipada (two-footed, human) |
| Meena (Pisces) | Jalachara (water creatures) |
Dhanu and Makara are each split into two halves with different groups, so for a Moon in either rashi the birth time decides which half applies; the Gun Milan app works this out for you.
The score table the Gun Milan app uses
Two Moons in the same group take the full 2. Between different groups the score turns on how the two creatures meet in nature: whether one is vashya to the other - one it can win over - or one it would prey on.
| Chatushpada | Dwipada | Jalachara | Vanachara | Keeta | |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Chatushpada | 2 | 1 | 1 | 0 | 1 |
| Dwipada | 1 | 2 | ½ | 0 | 1 |
| Jalachara | 1 | ½ | 2 | 1 | 1 |
| Vanachara | 0 | 0 | 1 | 2 | 0 |
| Keeta | 1 | 1 | 1 | 0 | 2 |
What the Gun Milan app shows
The result shows each person's vashya group and the points, added into the total. At 2 points of 36 Vashya seldom changes the answer on its own, and it never raises a dosha. Your pandit ji has the final word on how much it should weigh.
