The story in the sky

Meena is the fish, and the fish is the first form Vishnu took among his avatars. The story goes that King Manu, washing his hands in a river, found a tiny fish in his palms that asked him for shelter. He moved it to a pot, then a pond, and at last the ocean, and still it grew, until it showed itself as Vishnu and guided Manu's boat safely through a great flood, carrying the seeds of a new world. The sign's lord is Jupiter, the guru. A small creature that was the Lord all along: families hear in a Meena Moon a gentle child, generous to the small and the helpless.

What the name holds

Meena means 'fish', and its symbol is a pair of fish swimming head to tail in opposite directions; as the last sign, it closes the circle of the zodiac. Meenakshi, 'she whose eyes are like fish', is the goddess of Madurai, and a pair of fish has long been a sign of good fortune in Indian homes. Meena holds the last pada of Purva Bhadrapada and all of Uttara Bhadrapada and Revati. A child named by the Moon here takes a first sound from दी दू थ झ ञ दे दो चा ची (di, du, tha, jha, nya, de, do, cha, chi); ञ is in the chart, though hardly any names begin with it.

Nature

Meena is the last rashi of the zodiac, a water sign of the dual (dvisvabhava) kind, ruled by Jupiter and pictured as two fish swimming in opposite directions. Those born with the Moon here are sensitive, imaginative and spiritually inclined. They feel the joys and sorrows of others as if they were their own, and they are drawn to music, art, prayer and quiet reflection. They are easy-going and adaptable, flowing around obstacles rather than fighting them.

Strengths

Compassion is their greatest strength. People with a Meena Moon are kind, forgiving and generous, the first to help someone in difficulty and the last to judge. They have deep faith, a fine intuition and a creative spirit, and many are gifted in the arts, healing and service. They are content with simple things and bring a peaceful presence to any gathering. The tendency to watch, traditionally, is being too trusting or dreamy; a practical friend at their side serves them well.

In family and marriage

At home they are affectionate, tender and selfless, always ready to put the family's needs before their own. They keep religious observances and family traditions with love and are devoted, patient parents. In marriage they are romantic, loyal and deeply caring, and they want a relationship of emotional and spiritual closeness. A partner who returns their kindness finds in them a companion of rare gentleness and devotion.

The partner who suits them

A partner who is kind, steady and protective suits Meena best, someone who values their sensitivity and offers practical support without hardening them. Shared faith, or simple respect for it, a hand with the world's practical matters, and generosity never taken for granted: these let Meena's tender heart open fully in marriage.

In kundali matching

Meena is ruled by Jupiter and is of Brahmin varna; its vashya group is Jalachara. In a match, Jupiter and the lord of the partner's rashi are read for Graha Maitri, the friendship of the two minds; the two varnas and vashya groups are compared in Varna and Vashya; and how far the partner's rashi lies from Meena decides Bhakoot. No rashi makes a match good or bad on its own. How kundali matching works explains the whole reading.
