A nakshatra has four quarters, called padas. Part of Purva Bhadrapada lies in Kumbha and part in Meena, so a person born in Purva Bhadrapada has Kumbha or Meena as their Moon sign depending on the pada; the kundali shows which.

The story in the sky

Purva Bhadrapada's deity is Aja Ekapada, 'the unborn one-footed', a form of Rudra who stands on a single foot like a pillar holding earth and sky apart. Few stories are told of him, but the picture is a familiar one: in the Puranas the great tapasvis, the boy Dhruva among them, stood on one foot in unbroken devotion until their prayer was answered. That is the spirit of this star, a fire held steady by an inner purpose. Tradition sees it in Purva Bhadrapada people: idealistic, earnest and generous, willing to stand firm for what they believe and to give a great deal for it.

What the name holds

Purva Bhadrapada means 'the earlier blessed feet', the first of a pair of stars, and its symbol is a figure with two faces, one looking at the world and one beyond it. Tradition gives each quarter (pada) of the nakshatra its own syllable for beginning a child's name, and the quarter the Moon stood in at birth chooses it: से (se), सो (so), दा (da) or दी (di).

Nature

People born with the Moon in Purva Bhadrapada are said to be intense and serious-minded, given to long thought before they act and capable of great self-discipline. Jupiter, its ruling planet, gives wisdom, generosity and spiritual interest. It lies mostly in Kumbha and ends in Meena, so some carry more of Kumbha's reforming spirit and others more of Meena's compassion.

Strengths

They are sincere, principled and willing to make sacrifices for a cause or for the people they love. Many are drawn to philosophy, service, teaching or work that improves others' lives. They are generous with money and help, and can be eloquent and persuasive when they speak about what matters to them. Their seriousness of purpose gives them great perseverance.

In family and marriage

In family life they are devoted and protective, and they hold high ideals for their home and children. They are generous providers and support their relatives readily. Their intensity can sometimes make them swing between strong enthusiasm and worry, so a calm routine and a spouse to talk things over with help them keep a steady balance.

The partner who suits them

A partner who is calm, kind and shares their values tends to suit them, someone who understands their ideals and brings gentleness and practicality to the home. They value honesty, faith and a spouse who stands with them in their commitments. They repay that support many times over, working hard, generously and loyally for the family's good.

In kundali matching

Purva Bhadrapada is Manushya gana and Adi nadi, and its yoni animal is the lion. In a match these are set against the partner's nakshatra: a partner who is also Adi nadi brings Nadi dosha; a partner of Rakshasa gana brings Gana dosha; and Yoni compares the two animals. Other features of the two kundalis can cancel a dosha, so no nakshatra makes a match good or bad on its own. How kundali matching works explains the whole reading.
