Open the Gun Milan appNadi dosha means the boy's and the girl's Moon nakshatras belong to the same nadi. Different nadis take all 8 gunas; the same nadi takes 0.
The dosha is cancelled when the two Moons also share a rashi or a nakshatra, unless they sit almost together in one nakshatra. Even when it stands, a match with 18 or more gunas, and Manglik suiting, stays a good match in the Gun Milan app, with a note, because Nadi dosha is held mainly by Brahmin families.
Where the idea comes from
Nadi means a channel: the word Ayurveda uses for the currents that carry life through the body. Tradition sorts the 27 nakshatras into three such currents in a fixed pattern, and ties each to one of Ayurveda’s three constitutions: Adi to Vata, Madhya to Pitta and Antya to Kapha.
The thinking is a vaidya’s: health is balance, and a home where both people lean the same way has nothing to steady it. Two airy natures, or two fiery ones, were thought to tip the household one way, while different natures balance each other. The same imbalance was believed to reach the next generation: tradition ties a shared nadi to illness in the couple, to difficulty in conceiving, and to weaker health in the children. So Nadi is less a fault in either person than a check that the two are not too alike - and because health and children were what it guarded, it was given the most gunas.
The three nadis
Every nakshatra belongs to one nadi. Find each person's Moon nakshatra (janma nakshatra) below; if both are in the same column, they share a nadi.
When Nadi dosha is cancelled
A shared nadi is cancelled in any of these cases, and the result names the one that applies:
- Both Moons in the same rashi, in different nakshatras.
- Both Moons in the same nakshatra, in different rashis - possible in the nakshatras that span two rashis.
- Both Moons in the same rashi and the same nakshatra, but more than a quarter of the nakshatra (one pada) apart. Closer than that, the two Moons are in effect in one place, and the dosha stands.
A cancelled dosha still scores 0 of 8: the result says it is cancelled, beside the score, rather than adding the points back.
What the result shows
If the dosha stands, the total is 18 or more and Manglik suits, the answer stays green - "Good match" - with a one-line note that Nadi dosha is considered mainly in Brahmin families. The Gun Milan app does not ask your caste, so it leaves that to you.
Under 18 gunas, the answer is "Low guna score" whatever the Nadi. If your family holds Nadi dosha, your pandit ji has the final word.
