Bharani's deity is Yama, honoured as Dharmaraja, the keeper of right conduct. The best-loved story about him is a family one. His sister Yamuna had asked him again and again to visit, and at last, on the second day after Diwali, he came. She welcomed him with a tilak and a meal cooked with her own hands, and he was so moved that he blessed every brother who visits his sister on that day. Families still keep it as Bhai Dooj. Tradition sees the same nature in Bharani people: firm about what is right, and soft-hearted about the people they love.
What the name holds
Bharani means 'the one who bears' or 'carries', and its symbol is the womb, the place where new life is held and protected until it is ready. Tradition gives each quarter (pada) of the nakshatra its own syllable for beginning a child's name, and the quarter the Moon stood in at birth chooses it: ली (li), लू (lu), ले (le) or लो (lo).
Nature
People born with the Moon in Bharani are said to feel deeply and to carry a great deal. Venus, its ruling planet, gives them a love of beauty, comfort and the good things of life.
Strengths
They are honest about what they want and firm about what is right. Once they take on a responsibility, they see it through, however heavy it becomes. Many have artistic taste and a warm, generous hand with guests. They are not easily frightened by hard work or by hard truths, and families often lean on them in difficult times.
In family and marriage
At home they are devoted and caring, with strong attachments to the people they love. They like a well-kept, comfortable house and enjoy festivals and family gatherings. Their feelings run strong, so they may need to watch a tendency to hold on to a hurt; a frank word spoken early serves them better than a silence kept too long.
The partner who suits them
A partner who is open, affectionate and dependable tends to suit them, someone who appreciates their care and returns it in the same coin. Gentleness and a calm temper in the partner help them relax, and shared enjoyment of home, food and family life brings out their best. They give their whole heart to a marriage and value a spouse who takes it as seriously as they do.
In kundali matching
Bharani is Manushya gana and Madhya nadi, and its yoni animal is the elephant. In a match these are set against the partner's nakshatra: a partner who is also Madhya nadi brings Nadi dosha; a partner of Rakshasa gana brings Gana dosha; and Yoni compares the two animals. Other features of the two kundalis can cancel a dosha, so no nakshatra makes a match good or bad on its own. How kundali matching works explains the whole reading.
