Pushya's deity is Brihaspati, the guru of the gods. The Puranas tell how, whenever the gods lost heart, it was Brihaspati who steadied them with good counsel, kept their prayers and taught their children, the teacher who never stopped teaching. That is why Pushya is so widely trusted: many families still choose it for a child's first lesson, for a new beginning in the home, or for anything they want to last. Tradition sees Brihaspati's quiet goodness in Pushya people: steady, caring, dutiful, and the person the family turns to for sensible advice.
What the name holds
Pushya means 'the nourisher', the one who makes things thrive, and it is also called Tishya, 'the auspicious'. Its symbol is a cow's udder, the picture of nourishment given freely, every day. Tradition gives each quarter (pada) of the nakshatra its own syllable for beginning a child's name, and the quarter the Moon stood in at birth chooses it: हु (hu), हे (he), हो (ho) or डा (ḍa).
Nature
People born with the Moon in Pushya are said to be caring, dutiful and quietly strong. Saturn, its ruling planet, gives patience, discipline and a serious sense of responsibility, so their kindness is the dependable sort that shows up every day rather than only on special occasions.
Strengths
They are protective of the people they love and generous with their time, help and advice. Many are drawn to teaching, service, religion or any work that looks after others. They respect tradition and elders, keep their word and work patiently towards long-term security. Others instinctively trust them, and they are often the ones a family turns to when something must be done properly.
In family and marriage
Home and family are their first concern, and they are among the most devoted spouses and parents. They like order, ritual and a household that runs well. Their wish to protect can turn into worry or into doing too much for others, so they do well to accept care in return and to let the family share the load.
The partner who suits them
A partner who is sincere, respectful and family-minded tends to suit them, someone who values tradition and appreciates the quiet work they do. Affection expressed through loyalty and shared responsibility means more to them than flattery. With a spouse who honours their care and adds some lightness and laughter, they build a stable, nourishing home.
In kundali matching
Pushya is Deva gana and Madhya nadi, and its yoni animal is the sheep. In a match these are set against the partner's nakshatra: a partner who is also Madhya nadi brings Nadi dosha; a partner of Rakshasa gana brings Gana dosha; and Yoni compares the two animals. Other features of the two kundalis can cancel a dosha, so no nakshatra makes a match good or bad on its own. How kundali matching works explains the whole reading.
