A nakshatra has four quarters, called padas. Part of Vishakha lies in Tula and part in Vrischika, so a person born in Vishakha has Tula or Vrischika as their Moon sign depending on the pada; the kundali shows which.

The story in the sky

Vishakha is the one nakshatra shared by two different gods, Indra and Agni, the king of the gods and the sacred fire, honoured together as a pair. In the old Vedic rites, when the first grain of a new harvest was brought in, it was offered to Indra and Agni together before anyone ate, a thank-you for a season's work brought to fruit. Kartikeya, the young commander of the gods, is also called Vishakha. So this is the star of effort that reaches its goal. Tradition sees that in Vishakha people: purposeful, ambitious, able to hold two aims at once, and determined to see the harvest in.

What the name holds

Vishakha means 'the forked branch', a branch that divides in two, and its symbol is a triumphal gateway decorated with leaves, the arch one walks through after a goal is won. Tradition gives each quarter (pada) of the nakshatra its own syllable for beginning a child's name, and the quarter the Moon stood in at birth chooses it: ती (ti), तू (tu), ते (te) or तो (to).

Nature

People born with the Moon in Vishakha are said to be bright, spirited and quietly competitive, keen to excel in whatever they take up. Jupiter, its ruling planet, gives them faith, idealism and a love of learning. Vishakha lies mostly in Tula and ends in Vrischika, so some carry more of Tula's tact and others more of Vrischika's intensity.

Strengths

They are focused and hardworking, and once they choose a direction they pursue it with patience and courage. Many do well in teaching, law, public life, business or any field that rewards long effort. They speak persuasively, hold firm principles and are generous with their knowledge. Their drive often lifts the fortunes of the whole family.

In family and marriage

In the family they are protective, ambitious for their children and keen to see everyone progress. They take their responsibilities seriously and like a home with shared goals. Their focus on what lies ahead can sometimes leave little room for rest or for the small joys of the present, so making time for family life keeps their success warm and shared.

The partner who suits them

A partner who shares their values and supports their ambitions tends to suit them, someone loyal, encouraging and patient with their busy seasons. They value honesty and a spouse who is a true companion on the road. With mutual support and a home that celebrates each milestone together, they become a devoted, generous and inspiring partner.

In kundali matching

Vishakha is Rakshasa gana and Antya nadi, and its yoni animal is the tiger. In a match these are set against the partner's nakshatra: a partner who is also Antya nadi brings Nadi dosha; a partner of Deva or Manushya gana brings Gana dosha, while another Rakshasa does not; and Yoni compares the two animals. Other features of the two kundalis can cancel a dosha, so no nakshatra makes a match good or bad on its own. How kundali matching works explains the whole reading.
